Pontarddulais Firefighters Host Car Wash for Charity

On Saturday 20th June from 10am to 5pm the on – call crew at Pontarddulais station in Swansea are holding a charity car wash to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and the Luke Hedges Fund.

Watch Manager Anthony Mathias explains the event: “We are hoping to raise funds for two causes, firstly for The Fire Fighters charity supporting firefighters in need, and secondly for the Luke Hedges appeal.”

“Firefighter Craig Hedges’ son Luke, who’s 8 years old, has been receiving treatment for leukaemia at Heath hospital in Cardiff for the past 12 months.”

“With both Luke’s father and grandfather having backgrounds in the fire service, we wanted to show the family some support and help out as best as we can. The funds raised will help provide Luke’s family the extra support they need for things like travel back and forth from Heath Hospital in Cardiff for Luke’s regular treatment.”

“The Fire Fighters Charity provides a service to enhance the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families. Its vision is to make a positive difference through supporting people in the fire and rescue community nationwide. The charity costs over £8 million per year to run, and survives entirely on donations and fundraising.”

“We welcome all service staff and members of the public to come and have their vehicles washed to help support these worthy causes”.
